Anderson Humane’s Animal Care Techs are the whole world to our dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies. While this is a lot of responsibility, the tradeoff is that you’re welcomed by happy animals who are so excited to see you every time you come to work. Is there anything better?
What you’ll do
- Provide clean and sanitized living spaces, toys, and bedding to our animals throughout the day.
- Feed our animals nutritious meals to ensure they’re getting the nourishment they need to thrive.
- Assist with training new volunteers, interns, and staff because many hands make light work.
- Ensure our dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens flourish:
-
- Physically with lots of play and exercise, and multiple daily walks for dogs.
- Mentally by giving them challenging toys and puzzles to figure out.
- Socially with small playgroups and by making time just for them that’s a little extra-special.
-
It’s true that dogs and puppies demand our immediate attention by loudly telling us what they need when they need it, but we make sure to spoil our cats & kitties too. So, it’s essential that our Animal Care Technicians are at ease caring for all of our animals.
What to expect
- A loud and messy, but lively environment with animals of all sizes and characters.
- To follow all safety protocols and procedures to the letter. We do work with animals, after all.
- A mix of indoor and outdoor activities daily.
- To stay active; this is a very fast paced and physically demanding role. You’ll be walking, standing, and lifting (up to 50 lbs. with help) throughout your day.
- Staff, volunteers, and interns work alongside and help each other every day, which is what makes our Animal Care team able to do the incredible work they do. Everyone must make each other feel welcome, ask politely when help is needed, and remind each other of their value and contributions every chance they get!
What you’ll love
- Our animals’ unconditional love shown with sloppy kisses and rumbly purrs.
- You’ll slowly see our animals’ unique personalities and silliness the longer you’re with us.
- Starting to accrue Paid Time Off hours on your first day; you’re eligible for Holiday Pay too.
- A head start saving for retirement with our 401(k) program (must be 21years old).
- A wide variety of services in our Employee Assistance Program are available to help you manage life’s curveballs.
- Our Employee Adoption Discount because love at first sight sure happens a lot around here.
- Our Animal Care Technicians make $15 per hour.
- This is a part-time role, so most times we can coordinate a flexible schedule around your other commitments. Animal Care Techs work weekdays, weekends, and holidays with shifts between 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.
What we’re looking for
- Professional experience in animal care; even better if it’s in a kennel or shelter setting.
- Familiarity (or fluency) reading animal behavior.
- Courteous and respectful persons who model professional behavior strengthening our Animal Care team.
- You keep a cool head and can focus when up against a deadline.
- You’re happy working alone just as much as being teamed up with others.
