We understand that giving up a pet can be difficult, but

the best option for your pet is keeping them in their home.

Check out our resources below to see how we can help you!

Behavior

Our Behavior Helpline can provide you with knowledge and guidance to help manage unwanted behaviors. Please contact our behavior team at behaviorhotline@ahconnects.org or by calling (847) 697-2880 ext. 47.

Financial Hardship

If you cannot afford routine medical care for your pet, we offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics. For more info, please contact: clinic@ahconnects.org. We also have a food pantry!

STAR

Our STAR program helps people keep their pets safe when they are in crisis due to domestic violence and for low-income seniors during temporary hospital stays. Click here to learn more.

Home to Home

We can help you find the right home for your pet while keeping them in the comfort of your own home.
If you need to rehome your pet but want to keep them out of the shelter environment, our Home to Home program allows you to list your animal for adoption on our website while keeping them at home by your side. When rehoming your pet, it is important to be thorough and patient; finding the right home takes time. Investing time into the rehoming process increases your chance of successfully placing your pet in a loving home that is not only a great fit, but also a safe place for your pet. Rehoming your pet helps shelters like us save more animals in need.

Adopt-a-Pet

Adopt-a-Pet has staff dedicated to reviewing posts to prevent abuse, making it a safer alternative to online marketplaces. To utilize this resource, click here.

Surrendering Your Pet

**PLEASE NOTE: We are currently experiencing higher volumes of surrender inquiries than usual and are extremely limited on dog intake at this time.

The last option is for you to turn your pet over to a shelter. As a “no kill,” limited admission humane society, we are committed to zero euthanasia of adoptable animals in our care. Because the number of animals needing our assistance exceeds our adoption rate, we cannot immediately accept every animal that comes to us. The number of new animals we can accept is dictated by available kennel spaces at the shelter. For this reason, we are able to accept incoming animals by appointment only.

Please fill out the appropriate surrender form below. We will reach out to you after receipt of the request.

Cat

Other Resources

Since we are limited admissions humane society, we have compiled a list of alternative shelters you can contact which may accept your pet. The shelters are organized by county for your convenience: resource guide.
