HELP WANTED: Handy Human with a Heart for Animals!
Do you know your way around a toolbox and have a soft spot for furry friends? Anderson Humane is sniffing out an experienced part-time handyman to keep our locations is top working order! If you can fix a leaky faucet, patch up a fence, help pack and move all sorts of heavy, awkward things, and aren’t afraid of a little fur on your shirt, we’d love to meet you.
What you’ll do
- Repair, maintain, and improve the facilities (kennels, fencing, plumbing, lighting—you name it!) at all Anderson Humane locations (South Elgin, Elburn, and Bloomingdale).
- Respond to the unexpected emergency calmly and with a solution.
- Be our behind-the-scenes hero, making sure everything is running effectively and efficiently.
- Be a big part of maintaining a welcoming environment for both animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
What to expect
- A loud, but lively environment with animals of all sizes and characters!
- To follow safety and organization protocols, we do work with animals after all.
- A mix of indoor and outdoor activities daily.
- To stay active; this is a very physically demanding role, you’ll be walking, standing, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) throughout your day.

- This role pays $17 – 18 per hour commensurate on skill level and professional experience.

What we’re looking for
- Experience with general maintenance and repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.)
- Problem-solving skills and a “let’s fix it” attitude.
- Comfort working around animals of all sizes and temperaments.
- A big heart and a strong back.
