Kim’s Journey: A Path to Healing

As Told by Kim Goehring: Dedicated Volunteer & Foster Guardian

This week, as we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week, our volunteer spotlight is Kim Goehring. For over three years, Kim has been a cornerstone of the Anderson Humane community. While she has lent a hand in many areas, including dog care, her true passion lies in the specialized care of our feline friends. Her inspiration is simple yet profound: she loves animals and believes that every one of them deserves the chance to live in a house where they can feel truly cherished.

Expert Care and Unrivaled Dedication

Kim’s impact on our shelter is hard to overstate. As a vital member of our Volunteer Medication Team, she uses her expertise to administer essential meds to our cats, ensuring they stay on the path to recovery. Her commitment to our mission is awe-inspiring; in 2025 alone, Kim volunteered for 327 shifts, clocking an incredible 1,974 hours of service. Beyond her time, her dedication and efforts were instrumental in creating the “Meow Town” we see today. Her support helped provide the peaceful, updated spaces our cats now enjoy, ensuring they have a comfortable environment to call home while they wait for their families.

The Transformation of Tails

One of the most rewarding aspects of being a volunteer foster is witnessing the literal transformation of a life, especially for the medical case kittens Kim frequently welcomes into her home. Kim recently opened her doors to a foster kitten named Tails, who was incredibly sick upon arrival. Over the course of four months, Kim provided the intensive, specialized care Tails needed to survive. After multiple rounds of medication and constant support, Kim watched with pride as Tails began to gain weight and, more importantly, her confidence. Because of this dedicated care, Tails reached a healthy weight that allowed her to move on to her loving home.

The Power of “A Little While”

Kim’s philosophy on fostering is rooted in the idea that even a short stay can make a lifetime of difference. Whether she is working with cats in the shelter or nursing a medical foster back to health at home, she believes that providing a home and love, even if it is just for a little while, changes the trajectory of an animal’s life. By serving as a bridge between the shelter and a permanent family, Kim ensures that animals aren’t just waiting; they are thriving.

A Heartfelt Thank You

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Kim for her extraordinary service and unwavering dedication to Anderson Humane. Whether she is logging thousands of hours, ensuring our cats receive their life-saving medications, or providing the financial support to upgrade our facility, her impact is felt in every corner of our shelter. Kim, thank you for being a champion for the animals and a pillar of our volunteer family.
