Finding Ways to Say Yes!

Anderson Humane is experiencing a growing need for homes for dogs, cats, and other pets. Surrender requests are up 25% compared to last year. Many of these animals are local pets whose families deal with financial struggles or housing challenges. Others come from under-resourced shelters in various locations that depend on Anderson Humane to save them from euthanasia.

We find loving homes for as many animals as possible, and we’re committed to making the adoption process easy. This means we focus on finding ways to say “yes” to potential adopters.

When you visit  Anderson Humane, we skip the long applications, the requirement to bring veterinary records and landlord approval checks. Instead, we focus on meaningful conversations. We ask questions to help match adopters with pets that suit their lifestyles, ensure they will provide appropriate care, and then choose their new family members together.

Why Open Adoptions Are Effective

Studies from organizations like the ASPCA and Best Friends Society show that open adoptions don’t lead to more issues for pets after they’re adopted. Most pets thrive in their new homes with the right education and support.

Open adoptions also reduce bias and create a fairer process. We don’t judge someone’s ability to be a great pet parent based on their appearance, income, or other differences.  Removing barriers allows more people to adopt and saves more lives.

Supporting Successful Adoptions

Adopting a pet is just the beginning. To help pets succeed in their new homes, we offer training classes that teach adopters how to handle challenges like behavior issues—one of the most common reasons pets are returned to shelters.

We also provide adopters a voucher for a free veterinary exam at a local veterinarian. This is a great way to establish a relationship with a trusted vet and ensure the pet gets off to a healthy start in their new home.

In addition, we offer low-cost veterinary services at our clinic, including vaccinations and preventative care, to help pet owners keep their animals healthy. For those struggling to afford pet food, our pet food pantry is available to provide extra support.

Once an animal is an Anderson Animal, it will always have a home with us. Sometimes, adoptions don’t work out, or an adopter has a life change and is no longer able to care for their pet. We will always take an animal back as space allows.

Focusing on Loving Homes

While every animal at Anderson Humane is special, we aren’t looking for the “perfect” home. We’re looking for good, loving homes where animals can thrive. By making the adoption process accessible, we’ve been able to place thousands of pets into homes each year.

Adoption isn’t just about saving an animal’s life—it’s about creating a meaningful bond that brings joy and companionship to both the pet and their new family.

If you’re ready to adopt or want to support our mission, visit Anderson Humane. Together, we can ensure every pet has the chance to find a loving home. Visit AHCONNECTS.ORG/ADOPT to see all of our available adoptable animals.
