Dottie’s Dream: A Legacy of Healing and Hope

Dottie’s Legacy: One Gift. Thousands of Lives.

Dottie’s legacy began with a simple walk through Anderson Humane. She quietly toured our shelter, met the animals in our care, and saw—up close—the overwhelming number of pets in need of a second chance. That day, Dottie realized her dream was to build an animal hospital for Anderson Humane.

She didn’t make a big announcement. She didn’t ask for recognition. But Dottie made a quiet, powerful decision that day: she would make a difference—not just for one animal, but for generations to come.

When Dottie passed away in 2019, she left behind more than memories. In her will, she included a generous gift to Anderson Humane—a final act of love that brought her vision to life. That gift made the Anderson Humane Veterinary Clinic possible: a place of healing, hope, and second chances.

Since opening, the clinic has treated thousands of animals— providing essential medical care, vaccinations, surgeries, and emergency treatments for the animals that pass through our shelter. It’s where sick pets find relief, and compassion lives in every corner.

And her impact only continues to grow.

Dottie’s dream didn’t stop at our shelter walls. Today, the clinic also provides affordable care to pets in our community—spay/neuter surgeries, wellness exams, and more—ensuring families of all income levels can keep their pets healthy. It’s also become a vital resource for injured wildlife, helping hawks, turtles, beavers, and countless others return to the wild.

To honor her extraordinary vision, we created the Dottie Hinze Legacy Society—a special community of animal lovers who, like Dottie, choose to include Anderson Humane in their estate plans. Their legacy will carry forward lifesaving care and unconditional love for animals for generations.

That’s all it took to transform thousands of lives.

Imagine what your legacy could do.

“My mom didn’t just love animals—she believed in their power to bring people joy, comfort, and healing. She saw Anderson Humane as a place where that connection could thrive. It means everything to me to see her dream live on, helping thousands of animals and the people who love them.”
— Steve, Dottie’s son and Anderson Humane board member
