Bringing Pet Care to the Community: Ivy Academy Vaccine Clinic

On March 15, Anderson Humane partnered with The Ivy Academy to host a remote, low-cost vaccine clinic in northeastern Elgin—part of a broader initiative to improve access to pet care and education in underserved communities.

Led by volunteer veterinarian Dr. Aly Oriold and her assistant, Mary Jo Lang (CVT), the clinic marked the final step in a three-part program designed to empower pet owners with knowledge and resources. The event provided affordable vaccinations and wellness guidance for local families, many of whom face barriers to accessing traditional veterinary care.

The first two phases of the initiative focused on education. In January, Anderson Humane visited The Ivy Academy’s Geneva campus to present an informative seminar on the importance of spaying, neutering, and vaccinating pets. In February, the same presentation was brought to the Elgin campus, continuing our outreach and reinforcing preventative pet care as an essential part of animal welfare.

These locations were carefully chosen because they serve communities where veterinary care is often out of reach due to financial or logistical challenges. The March vaccine clinic responded directly to this need, offering an accessible solution and a welcoming environment.

A highlight of the clinic was the presence of a Spanish interpreter, provided with the help of The Ivy Academy, which ensured language would not be a barrier to understanding. Many attendees were Spanish-speaking pet owners, and the ability to communicate clearly made a significant difference in both service and experience.

While the clinic was a moderate success in terms of turnout, it was a meaningful and impactful event for those who attended. It reflected our continued commitment to extending care beyond our walls and into the heart of the community—where it’s needed most.

We’re grateful to The Ivy Academy, Dr. Oriold, and Mary Jo Lang for their partnership and dedication. And we look forward to expanding efforts like these in the future.
