Told by Kristin Leasia: Dedicated Volunteer & Foster
Today, we celebrate volunteer and foster Kristin Leasia. Kristin’s journey into the world of animal rescue was inspired by her own rescue dog, Chester, who has been her constant companion throughout her adult life. When she moved from the city, she sought out an organization where she could continue to dedicate her time and effort to supporting animals in need. Knowing that Anderson Humane was a well-regarded and respected organization, she stepped into the role of a volunteer foster to ensure that other animals could find the same kind of friendship she shares with Chester.
The Joy of Connection
Kristin is a familiar face at Anderson Humane, giving her time to fundraising events, fostering, and Doggy Day Out adventures. One of her favorite memories is a Doggy Day Out with a sweet dog named Sourdough. With the weather too cold for an outing, Kristin and Sourdough shared a cozy moment in the car, complete with a Starbucks Pup Cup. Sourdough proved to be an incredibly sweet companion—she loves to cuddle and be petted, and she even has a cute little whimper to let you know she wants more attention. Her gentle nature and good behavior in the car highlight the tangible, life-changing positivity that a shelter animal brings into a home.
Heartwarming Matches
In addition to her one-on-one time with shelter dogs, Kristin has spent many hours handling pups at off-site adoption events. For Kristin, nothing is more special than witnessing the moment a dog she is handling gets chosen by a new family. That heartwarming connection is a privilege she doesn’t take lightly. By helping to match a deserving animal with a loving home, she sees firsthand the profound impact of her work – not just for the animal getting a second chance, but for the people who are welcoming a new best friend into their lives.
Building a Legacy of Kindness
To Kristin, volunteering and fostering are her ways of paying forward the love and friendship she has received from her own rescue. She believes that the opportunity to connect people with animals is something that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Her journey reminds us that every act of service, no matter how small, creates a ripple effect of compassion. During Volunteer Appreciation Week, we celebrate the dedication that Kristin brings to our mission, helping to bridge the gap between shelter life and a beautiful new beginning.
