Story #8 of 60: Raven Found Me

I had just lost my beautiful Jewel, a senior black indoor cat, to skin cancer. Two years before that, I had also lost my precious Raven to uterine cancer. My heart was broken, and as hard as I tried, I could not find a senior black cat in local shelters.
One day, I called on the spirit of my first Raven and asked her to help me find the right companion. Within minutes, a thought came to me. Instead of searching only nearby shelters, I should look for the shelter with the best reviews. Almost immediately, Anderson Humane appeared in my search.
I began looking through the adoptable cats, one by one. The very last photo I viewed stopped me in my tracks. The cat looked exactly like my beloved Raven, right down to the small white smudge on her chest. She was ten years old, healthy, and available.
Then I read the final sentence in her bio, and it took my breath away. It said, “Thank you for checking out my cute self. My name is Raven.”
In that moment, I knew without a doubt that my first Raven had led me to her.
Nearly three years later, my second Raven brings joy into my life every single day. She is the perfect companion for me, and I love her more than words can express. Finding her gave me peace and comfort during a time of deep loss and reminded me that the love we share with our animals never truly leaves us.
I share this story with anyone who asks how I found my Raven. I want people to know that our pets stay with us in ways we may not always expect, and that sometimes, the right connection finds us when the timing is right.
