Sometimes the biggest impacts start with the smallest acts of kindness.
Five years ago, Brilliance Subaru of Elgin invited one adoptable dog into its showroom for the day. A simple gesture during the early days of the pandemic that gave customers a reason to smile and one lucky pup a better chance at finding a home. That single visit would spark a partnership that’s since changed the lives of over 1,000 animals and countless people across our community.
A Small Idea Gains Momentum
After that first visit, the Brilliance team wanted to do more. They began hosting a Dog-of-the-Day twice a week, giving adoptable dogs from Anderson Humane a spotlight in their showroom. Customers looked forward to the visits, staff members became regulars in our adoption center, and the bond between our two organizations began to grow stronger.
The Big Idea: The Road Home
In June 2022, Brilliance Subaru took its commitment to the next level. Dreaming big, they proposed a weekend adoption event unlike anything we’d tried before: “The Road Home,” with the ambitious goal of finding homes for 100 animals in just two days.
But they didn’t stop at planning. Early that June, Brilliance staff loaded up their Subaru parts van and drove to one of our partner shelters in Oklahoma to help bring back over 60 dogs and puppies for the event. They found fosters to care for them, promoted the event in their customer newsletter and on social media, and even went on local news to spread the word.
Their dedication paid off: 154 dogs, puppies, and kittens were adopted that weekend. The event’s success inspired us all — and it became a twice-yearly tradition.
A Lifesaving Journey Continues
Only a few months later, in September 2022, the Brilliance Subaru team jumped back into action, this time to help with a historic rescue. They joined us in transporting 167 of the more than 2,000 beagles released from the Envigo breeding facility, helping Anderson Humane become the second-largest Envigo Beagle rescue operation in the country.
Their compassion, organization, and energy once again turned an act of rescue into a story of hope.
1,002 Lives Transformed… And Counting
As we approached our most recent Road Home event, Brilliance Subaru tallied the impact of their efforts. Since that first dog walked into their showroom five years ago, they had helped 943 animals find loving homes.
On October 4, 2025, during our latest adoption event, we reached the milestone together, 1,002 adoptions directly connected to Brilliance Subaru of Elgin’s commitment to helping animals in need.
Still Driving Change
Brilliance Subaru’s support hasn’t slowed down. They continue to host our adoptable Dog-of-the-Day every Tuesday and Friday, introducing new faces to potential adopters. Plans are already underway for the next Road Home adoption event in June 2026, and their team remains as dedicated as ever to helping animals find their way home.
A Partnership That Proves One Idea Can Change Everything
What started with one dog during a difficult year has grown into a movement of compassion, teamwork, and community impact. Brilliance Subaru of Elgin has shown that when a business opens its doors, and its heart, to animal welfare, incredible things happen.
It starts with an idea. And thanks to Brilliance Subaru, that idea has helped more than a thousand animals find their road home.
