60 Stories in 60 Days: There Was Still Love to Give

Story #2 of 60: Love Still Had Room
As told by Debbie Kaszniak, Adopter

After losing our 12-year-old dog, Maddie, on July 3, 2025, our hearts were heavy. Because we are older, I told myself that chapter of our lives was closed and that we wouldn’t bring another dog home.

Our daughter had other ideas. She kept sending photos of puppies available at Anderson Humane. At first, I resisted. Then on July 7, 2025, I finally gave in and decided to visit.

That’s when we met Bailey.

Bailey was a four-month-old mixed breed puppy, later revealed to be 48 percent pit bull, and she won us over instantly. We brought her home that day and have not looked back. She is sweet, smart, and fills our home with more love than we ever imagined.

All of our grandkids adore her, especially her endless supply of puppy kisses, which she happily shares with everyone. While Bailey could never replace our beloved Maddie, she helped us realize something important. We still had so much love to give, and she was ready to meet us right where we were.

We have only had Bailey for a few short months, but the joy she brings is undeniable. She has also shown us just how wonderful pit bulls can be as family pets. Beyond our own adoption experience, Anderson Humane also supported us when our daughter was having challenges with her dog, showing compassion and care every step of the way.

That kindness made all the difference.

As Anderson Humane celebrates 60 years, I want people to know how deeply compassionate this organization is and how adoption can open doors you never expected to walk through.

Sometimes, love shows up when you think you are done looking.
