Story #5 of 60: My Foster Fail, My Soul Dog
As told by Kim Saxton, Adopter & Volunteer
I am a dog walking volunteer at Anderson Humane, and one day I decided to foster a black dog who had been surrendered by her owner. She had been overlooked for adoption, which always makes me sad because black dogs tend to stay the longest in shelters. I only planned to keep her over the holidays and then bring her back.
Two years later, she is still here.
When she arrived, I also had a reactive and nervous dog that I had adopted during the COVID pandemic. She had been abandoned and did not like to be alone. My foster dog quickly became her emotional support. They love being together. They sleep and eat next to each other, and my nervous dog has become a completely new dog since Yennifer came into our lives.
Yennifer is my foster fail, my soul dog. She has such a sweet, loving personality, and she makes my other dog happier and healthier. She makes me so happy as well.
Adopting from Anderson Humane has given me two incredible companions and a household filled with love. Experiences like this show how rewarding it can be to open your heart to a dog who might otherwise be overlooked.
