60 Stories in 60 Days: A Second Chance for Both of Us

Story #13 of 60: Love at First Paw
As told by Claudia von Fragstein, Adopter

After my beloved dog, Bullie, passed away, my heart felt empty. I knew I would eventually open it to another dog, but I was not sure I was ready. I made an appointment at Anderson Humane to meet two dogs, Luna and Celine. Celine was just a puppy, 47 pounds of curiosity and energy. My mom and I immediately felt a connection and knew she belonged with us. She is now known as Karma.

We thought Karma would be the perfect fit for our household, which includes two cats, a tortoise, a turtle, and a parakeet. From her very first days with us, she showed a gentle, loving spirit and a playful personality that brightened every corner of our home. We attended two puppy classes together, and watching her grow and learn was a joy.

Today, Karma is almost two years old. We live in a house with two acres of land in Kankakee, and part of the yard is fenced, giving her space to run, play, and explore. She fills our lives with laughter and love. My mom and I adore her, and I am so grateful to have her as my first female dog. She truly lives up to her name.

Adopting Karma also helped heal the sadness of losing Bullie. She brought light back into our lives at exactly the right time. Anderson Humane supported us every step of the way, helping Karma adjust to her new home and guiding us through the entire process. They are truly the whole package.

Karma reminds me every day why adopting is so special. Sometimes the right dog finds you at exactly the right time, and that moment can change your life forever.
