Meet Milo – the Milestone Rescue
Anderson Humane is proud to announce a meaningful milestone in our ongoing partnership with Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC): the rescue of our 150th animal in 2025. This special rescue is Milo, a 9-year-old Domestic Longhair cat with a gentle spirit and wise eyes, ready for a second chance at a happy life. Milo is the cat featured in the image for this story, a perfect face to represent the lives saved through this vital partnership.
CACC is an open-intake facility serving the entire Chicagoland area, and it takes in thousands of animals every year, regardless of their condition or background. Due to constant overcrowding, many animals face uncertain futures. That’s where our partnership comes in—helping relieve the pressure by transferring animals from CACC into our care, where they receive the attention, medical care, and love they deserve.
Saving Lives Through Partnership
Our work with CACC is just one part of a broader, strategic network of lifesaving collaborations. Anderson Humane regularly pulls animals from shelters across Kane County, Aurora, DuPage, Winnebago County, and Joliet, as well as out-of-state partners in Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, and Louisiana. These efforts expand our impact far beyond our immediate community, giving vulnerable animals across the country a better chance at life.
A Growing Need in a Changing Landscape
We’re also seeing a rise in owner-surrender requests, largely due to financial strain and housing insecurity. These difficult circumstances make our work even more essential—and underscore the importance of community support.
Even with these challenges, Anderson Humane remains on pace to adopt out over 4,000 animals in 2025, a testament to our team’s dedication and our community’s compassion. For nearly 60 years, we’ve been committed to building meaningful connections between people and animals—and we’re just getting started.
Stories of Resilience: Alabama & Mook
Two recent rescues show just how urgent and impactful this work can be:
-
Alabama, a sweet cat we saved just 15 minutes after her scheduled euthanasia time. She’s now receiving treatment for an upper respiratory infection and will be available for adoption soon.
-
Mook, who came to us in need of emergency surgery for pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection. Our clinic acted fast, and thanks to the quick response, Mook is now recovering and ready for adoption at our South Elgin location.
As Alyssa Masten, our Intake and Transfer Manager, shared:
“The staff is so thankful when we’re able to pull animals that are up against the deadline. It means the world to them to know these animals will get medical care, love, and the chance to thrive.”
Help Us Save More Lives
Milo may be our 150th rescue from CACC this year, but so many more are still waiting for their chance at a safe, loving home. Visit ahconnects.org/adopt to meet animals from CACC and beyond who are ready to become part of your family.
With your support, we can keep saying “yes” when it matters most.
Together, we can give more animals the loving homes they deserve.
